New information conducted by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine has detected a link between HPV and oral cancer.
When the HPV strain was found with the oral cavity the patients had a 22% higher likelihood of having oral cancer. There was also information showing that the HPV strain also contributed to other types of cancer such as neck and head.
HPV is short for human papillomavirus it is a virus that is transmitted through skin to skin contact during intimate interactions. The virus can be treated in multiple ways including vaccination.The HPV vaccination is only available between the aged of 9 to 26. Parents are strongly encouraged to have daughters vaccinated.
Other care in important such as regular check-ups to catch the virus early. HPV is a very common strain that infects a large portion of the population. The best form of treatment is prevention and early detection. It’s strongly encouraged to have an oral cancer screening. As April is oral cancer awareness month it is an excellent time to have your screening.
