April is National Oral Cancer Awareness Month
Did you know that approximately 1 person dies EVERY HOUR from oral cancer? That’s 43,250 Americans in one year, making it more deadly than breast cancer, cervical cancer, and prostate cancer.
Exposure to the HPV-16 and HPV-18 viruses (human papilloma virus) are the fastest growing risk factors for oral cancer. This same virus is responsible for most cervical cancers in women. The cirus presents a 5 times increase in occurrence of Oral Cancer under the age of 40.
When found early, oral cancer patients have an 80-90% survival rate, so early detection is extremely important!
Take a peek at the video Dr. Levine speaking about detection and screening for oral cancer. Dr. Levine requires all patients to receive an oral cancer screening once per year to ensure early detection and to take better cautionary measures.
